Screen Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the Call for Entries to the fourth annual Screen Nova Scotia Awards, taking place on May 16, 2018 in the Schooner Room at Casino Nova Scotia. You can find the online entry form HERE.

For entries for the Film Crew Excellence Award and the DANS Animation Award, please scroll down. The deadline for all entries is: Friday, March 23, 2018.

Presented by Screen Nova Scotia, the Awards Gala recognizes the incredible talent, creativity, and passion that are the trademarks of Nova Scotia’s film, television, and animation sector. Among these notable awards are the ACTRA Awards for Outstanding Performances, the Digital Animators of Nova Scotia Award, the Film Crew Excellence Award, the Community Recognition Award, and the Screen Nova Scotia Awards for film & television.

The Screen Nova Scotia Award categories are:

  • Best Feature Film
  • Best Documentary Film
  • Best Short Film
  • Best Television Series
  • Best Animated Series

Winners will be selected by an independent jury comprised of respected members of the screen-based industry. More details, including host and ticket information, will be released within the next few weeks.

Last year’s sold-out event was a true celebration of our industry and community in Nova Scotia, and we look forward to celebrating with you again!

FILM CREW EXCELLENCE AWARD

This award, now in its 6th year, was developed in partnership with the local unions and guilds, and recognizes the outstanding work happening behind the camera in Nova Scotia’s audiovisual industry. The professionalism, innovation and ingenuity of the crews in Nova Scotia are a major contributor to the province’s vibrant film industry. This award honours their contribution in maintaining Nova Scotia as one of Canada’s premiere film destinations.

The 2017 award was presented to editor Sarah Bryne. Sarah’s recent credits include Play Your Gender, Trailer Park Boys and Your Money or Your Wife. Sarah also works extensively with the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative and on countless short films for emerging filmmakers. Past winners also include: Deanna Anthony (costumes), Brian Power (sound mixer), Maggie Thomas (script supervisor), and Gary Swim (locations).

The Film Crew Excellence Award will recognize an individual crew person or team for outstanding creative enterprise within Nova Scotia’s screen based industry. Nominations for the 2018 Film Crew Excellence Award should include:

– The name(s), position(s) and contact information for the nominee(s)
– A description of their use of innovation and commitment to the Nova Scotia screen-based industry
– Up to two supporting documents (photos, video clips, etc.) can be provided for jury review.

Nominations can be submitted via email to tara@screennovascotia.com or delivered in person to the Screen Nova Scotia office: 1496 Lower Water Street, Suite #502, Halifax, NS. All nominations will be reviewed and deliberated by a jury of industry professionals.

DANS AWARD: OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN ANIMATION

This category – presented by the Digital Animators of Nova Scotia – allows for commercial submissions, music videos, short films, YouTube content or any animated scene in a show or film produced in Nova Scotia. Based on overall artistic achievement in the field of digital animation, this award will shine a spotlight on the great work being done by the talented workforce of animators in Nova Scotia. The award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation will go to the animator of the submitted production.

Any animated scene that was produced in Nova Scotia in 2017 is eligible to enter. The submitted scene should highlight exemplary skill and demonstrate the high level of work being done in our industry. To enter, please email tara@screennovascotia.com with the following details:
